27th November 2013 - 28th November 2013

ucc2

The Department of Government, UCC, in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Wider Europe, NUI Maynooth, on 28-29 November 2013 hosted a major multi-disciplinary conference examining forty years of Irish membership of the EU. The conference took place in UCC and brought together leading figures from the worlds of academia, politics, civil society, business and the media with Professor Desmond Dinan, George Mason University, Washington delivering the keynote address.

The event also marked the re-launch of the Irish Association for Contemporary European Studies (IACES) whose aim it is to bring together European Studies scholars and practitioners from across the island of Ireland to foster collaboration, source funding, and disseminate scholarly research on European Integration and membership of the EU. The association will also seek to contribute to future public and political discussion on the question of Ireland’s EU membership.

The conference programme is available to download here: Reflections on Forty Years of Irish Membership of the EU – Conference Programme

Funding for the conference was provided by the Communicating Europe fund of the Department of the Taoiseach and by the European Commission’s Jean Monnet Programme.
