Roundtable on “The Forgotten Tribe”

We hosted a panel discussion on the new book “The Forgotten Tribe – British MEPs 1979-2020” at Queen's University Belfast on 23 January 2023.

Only recently published, this book provides an account of the impact and legacy of UK MEPs in the European Parliament, including the particular role and achievements of MEPs from Northern Ireland. It had a devoted chapter to their singular role (written by Dr Giada Lagana), and also contains a profile of John Hume (written by David Harley).

James (Jim) Nicholson, Northern Ireland’s longest-standing MEP, Claire Hanna MP for Belfast South, Dr Giada Lagana, Lecturer in Politics at Cardiff University and President (IACES), and David Harley (co-editor of the book and former Deputy Secretary-General of the European Parliament) will take part to the conversation. The panel will be led by Dr Viviane Gravey, Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at QUB.

The event was jointly organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office, IACES and QUB.

A recording of the event is available below:
